Wapota

A sizable being equipped with a drill-like facial structure, known as a wapota, inhabited the planet Kessel. During the Raid on Kessel, Han Solo and Chewbacca had an encounter with one of these animals as they attempted to flee the mines.

Behind the scenes

The wapota was present in the original versions of the script for the movie Solo: A Star Wars Story. In The Art of Solo: A Star Wars Story, a reference book, concept art of the creature created by Matt Allsopp, Jake Lunt Davies, and Luke Fisher is featured. The book characterizes the wapota as a "naked mole creature, the size of an elephant," that possesses a massive drill on its face. This creature is startled by the disturbance caused by L3-37 and DD-BD on Kessel, leading to a clumsy pursuit as Han Solo and Chewbacca try to get away. While its name was not specified, the creature made its initial appearance in canon within Solo: A Star Wars Story: A Junior Novel, where it was portrayed as "a gigantic, ten-legged form with what seemed to be a huge, vibrating drill attached to the front of its head."
