The Y'bith represented a distinct subspecies of the sentient Bith species, whose emergence was a direct consequence of the devastating Nozho–Weogar War. This conflict brought widespread destruction to the ecosystem of Clak'dor VII, the Bith homeworld, through the use of chemical, biological, and nuclear weaponry, resulting in widespread mutations and death. The surviving Bith, affected by these mutations, utilized bioengineering to stabilize their genetic divergence, ultimately leading to the creation of the Y'bith as a separate, derivative subspecies.
Visually, the Y'bith retained similarities to the standard Bith, yet they exhibited darker, more orange skin, along with more prominent facial characteristics and fingers. Within Bith society, Y'bith possessed the same legal entitlements as their Bith counterparts, although they encountered significant social discrimination.
Within the updated Star Wars canon, the Y'bith received their initial mention in Fully Operational, a 2018 supplementary resource for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion role-playing game, developed by Fantasy Flight Games. This subspecies initially appeared within the Star Wars Legends continuity, debuting in the 1978 The Star Wars Holiday Special television movie, and were officially named on the StarWars.com Databank.
