Zuchii was a type of plant utilized in the creation of flash-fried zuchii. The Devaronian chef Sama Macoy prepared a flash-fried zuchii dish with a zesty sauce as her entry for the second round of a cooking competition, held centuries before the Battle of Takodana. The contest aimed to find the next sous chef at Maz Kanata's castle on the planet of Takodana, where she was a pirate.
Originally, Macoy, an employee in the castle's kitchens, had intended to create a zesty soufflé for the round. This particular round required the contestants to cook while being targeted by stun bolts. However, the bolts caused her to miscalculate her whisking, leading to the soufflé batter's explosion. Because Macoy had to quickly prepare the zuchii dish as a substitute, its flavors and textures were of a lower quality. Despite this setback, she tried to pass it off as a delicious classic with a crispy texture. After Strono Tuggs, the Artiodac head chef and judge, and his droid co-judges, Carly and J'Nell, sampled the dish, they concluded that Macoy had lost the round, eliminating her from the competition.
The first appearance of zuchii was in the short story "A Recipe for Death," penned by Landry Q. Walker and included in the 2016 anthology Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens: Volume I. The first depiction of zuchii occurred in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, a 2019 cookbook by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak.
