Flash-fried zuchii

The culinary creation known as flash-fried zuchii involved frying zuchii, which is a green vegetable. On Takodana, Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs organized a cooking competition to find the murderer of Robbs Ely; during the competition, he sampled a poorly executed version of this dish made by Devaronian prep cook Sama Macoy. Following the destruction of Takodana Castle, Tuggs included a flash-fried zuchii recipe in The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and served the snack at Tuggs' Grub.

Description

Flash-fried zuchii was a dish centered around fresh zuchii, a green vegetable that is both juicy and sweet. This dish involved cutting the zuchii into sticks, coating them in breading, and then flash-frying them until they achieved a golden-brown color and crispy texture, after which they were served alongside a tangy sauce. It was regarded as a traditional and well-loved dish.

History

Prior to the Battle of Takodana, which occurred in 34 ABY, Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs managed the kitchen within Maz Kanata's castle located on Takodana. Following the murder of his sous-chef Robbs Ely, Tuggs orchestrated a cooking contest to find a replacement for Ely, and also to secretly identify the cook responsible for the murder. Sama Macoy, a Devaronian prep cook, created flash-fried zuchii as a last-minute substitute when her Devaronian Soufflé exploded. This dish was inferior in both flavor and texture, failing to impress Tuggs or the judges, who were BD-3000 luxury droids named Carly and J'Nell who had committed the murder of Ely.

While on Takodana, Tuggs cultivated zuchii in his garden and prepared the dish. After the castle's destruction, he began serving the dish at Tuggs' Grub, his mobile restaurant which operated out of a modified transport. He was known to park at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo within Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. Furthermore, he included the recipe in his cookbook, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.

Behind the scenes

The first appearance of flash-fried zuchii was in the 2016 short story called "A Recipe for Death," authored by Landry Q. Walker. Its first visual representation was in the 2019 recipe book, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, written by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe calls for an oil like canola oil for frying, along with ingredients like panko breadcrumbs, grated parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, all-purpose flour, egg, buttermilk, and zucchini.
