The 88th Armor was a battalion within the Republic Military. This unit fought during the initial period of the Galactic War against the Sith Empire. The 301st Infantry was relieved of duty on the embattled planet of Hoth in 3642 BBY, following their assistance to the Jedi Knight called the Hero of Tython. They had helped in recovering the blueprints for the Sith Emperor's space station. The 301st returned to the Republic capital on Coruscant, but General Callan Grayne reassigned the 88th Armor to Hoth to take their place.
The video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, released in 2011, included the first reference to the 88th Armor. This occurred during the Jedi Knight quest entitled "The Price of Victory."
