Brodihi

The Brodihi were a sentient species distinguished by their pair of horns and elongated snout. The Chiss Ascendancy discovered Brodihi artifacts within the wreckage of a starship, which were subsequently exhibited in an art gallery. Despite possessing these relics, the Chiss remained uncertain about the Brodihi's precise origins. After careful examination of these artifacts, including Brodihi tableware, the Chiss cadet Mitth'raw'nuru, known as "Thrawn," inferred a strict hierarchical structure within their society and a predilection for close-quarters engagements.

Biology and appearance

Characterized by a pair of horns and a long snout, the Brodihi were a sentient species. Based on the extended shape of their eating utensils, designed to deliver food far back into the snout, the Chiss cadet Mitth'raw'nuru "Thrawn" posited that the Brodihi's taste receptors were located several centimeters down their snout. Thrawn also speculated that the Brodihi's outer row of teeth served as a traditional weapon, resulting in the evolution of jaws capable of biting enemies without the sensation of tasting flesh or blood.

Society and culture

Brodihi culture featured the use of dinnerware, including both plates and elongated utensils, all adorned with angled rainbow-colored stripes. To align the stripes correctly when setting a table, the knives, forks, and spoons needed to be oriented toward the table's center and then back towards its edge, mirroring the curvature of their horns. Furthermore, the knives had to point backward toward the edge to align the color bars; however, flipping them over necessitated angling them in the opposite direction, toward the table's center, to maintain the pattern.

Through analysis of Brodihi tableware, Thrawn deduced that knives pointed toward oneself indicated a lack of hostility towards fellow diners. Given the option to orient the knives toward the center when flipped, he also inferred the existence of a social or political hierarchy among the Brodihi, where the direction of one's knife reflected their rank relative to others. Thrawn further concluded that the Brodihi's reliance on close-range weaponry like teeth and knives suggested a preference for close combat, implying that long-range weapons were secondary or even considered dishonorable.

History

The Chiss Ascendancy, the governing body of the Chiss within the Unknown Regions, recovered Brodihi artifacts, including tableware, from the wreckage of a crashed starship at some point. More than three centuries later, these artifacts were displayed in an alien art section of an art gallery on Naporar. Despite the display including a picture and description of the Brodihi, the Chiss remained uncertain about their origins and current status. While a cadet at Taharim Academy on Naporar, Thrawn examined the items and applied his expertise in art analysis to formulate several conclusions about the Brodihi. Thrawn later guided Senior Cadet Irizi'ar'alani, known as "Ziara," through the gallery, explaining his reasoning and leading her to reach similar deductions.
