The Sith Holocron, also known as the Dark Holocron, was the name given to a Sith holocron recovered by Jedi Master Odan-Urr from one of the starships in Dark Lord of the Sith Naga Sadow's fleet following his defeat at the Battle of Koros Major some 5,000 years before the Battle of Yavin. It was the first known Sith holocron to come into the possession of the Jedi Order.
Though the holocron was recovered before Sadow's retreat to Yavin 4, the holocron's gatekeeper spoke to Odan-Urr of Sadow's escape from Empress Teta's forces and his survival. The holocron remained in the hands of Odan-Urr until his death at the hands of Exar Kun, though, at some point, Vodo-Siosk Baas was known to have studied the holocron.
At an unknown time it was recovered by the Jedi Order and came to be stored in the Holocron Vaults in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Several decades before the Clone Wars, the holocron was stolen by Lorian Nod, who was overly curious about the Sith. Although returned to its place in the temple, Sith Lord Count Dooku obtained it at a later time, after which it was lost during the Clone Wars.
The Dark Holocron first appeared in the fourth issue of Dark Lords of the Sith story arc of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi series of comic books, written by Tom Veitch and Kevin J. Anderson, penciled by Chris Gossett, and published on January 10, 1995.
When inverted, the Aurebesh inscription in the image above reads, "In umbris potestas est," which is Latin for, "In the shadows, there is power."
