Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith, Part 4: The Demise of a Dark Jedi represents the fourth installment within the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – Dark Lords of the Sith comic book narrative. Dark Horse Comics released it to the public on January 10 of 1995.
Exar Kun follows the path of Naga Sadow, eventually reaching the fourth moon orbiting Yavin, where the Massassi greet him. The spirit of Freedon Nadd remains, cautioning Kun about the Massassi. Ignoring Nadd's warnings, Kun finds himself captured. Abruptly, the Massassi priest named Zythmnr steps forward, declaring Kun as the prophesied one and leading him to the Temple of Fire.
On Ossus, Master Ood Bnar provides Ulic Qel-Droma with a detailed history of the Empress Teta system as preparation for his infiltration of the Krath. Nomi Sunrider, Ulic's friend, along with his brother Cay Qel-Droma, attempt to dissuade Ulic, but he remains resolute. Before Ulic's departure, he appears before Master Odan-Urr, who uses a Sith holocron to illustrate the fate of a Jedi who attempted to control the dark side from within, only to be consumed by the dark side of the Force.
Ulic takes offense at Odan-Urr's lack of support and insists on his course of action. As Ulic prepares to leave, his brother Cay intercepts him, expressing his deep concerns about the mission and the possibility of never seeing Ulic again. Ulic dismisses these fears and sets off for Cinnagar, disguised as a smuggler.
Within the Great Temple located on Yavin 4, Kun becomes the focal point of a Massassi blood ritual. Instead of showing fear, Kun believes that he is finally on the verge of acquiring the knowledge he has been seeking. As the ritual unfolds, an immense surge of power is unleashed, giving rise to a formidable creature originating from Naga Sadow's dark side alchemy.
Arriving on Cinnagar's surface, Ulic commences his operation. Unknown to him, Satal and Aleema Keto are already aware of his presence and are plotting to use him. The following day, the Krath stage a public execution of several rebellious carbonite traders, who are cast into a carbon smelter.
During this public execution, a sudden ambush against the Krath is staged by rebels. Hoping to gain the Krath's confidence, Ulic intervenes to learn the dark side secrets held by Aleema and Satal. Ulic swiftly defeats the rebels using his lightsaber. Having earned their trust, Aleema welcomes Ulic, while her cousin Satal harbors jealousy towards the newcomer.
Facing what seems like certain death at the hands of Sadow's creature on Yavin 4, Kun once again embraces the power of the dark side and seizes control of an ancient Sith amulet. By channeling the power of the dark side through the amulet, Kun uses his Force abilities to incinerate the beast. Impressed by his command of the Force, the Massassi acknowledge him as their new leader.
Delighted by Exar Kun's descent into darkness, Nadd begins to formulate a plan to resurrect himself using Naga Sadow's laboratory. However, Kun has grown weary of his Sith master and employs the amulet's power to permanently eliminate the spirit of Freedon Nadd. In his last moments, Nadd warns Satal and Aleema to be wary of the "pretender" Exar Kun and to safeguard the legacy of the Sith.
A visual inconsistency exists within the three panels depicting Ulic and Cay's discussion before Ulic departs, specifically before their embrace: the middle panel is supposed to show Ulic's face, but it is positioned where his brother's face should be, and the speech bubble containing his dialogue points to the opposite side of the panel.
