Gaulus

Gaulus was a planet where the forces of the Rebel Alliance, which included both Lieutenant Caluan Ematt and Sergeant Ruescott Melshi, once operated. Following the Alliance's retreated from Gaulus, the UT-60D U-wing starfighter/support craft of the rebels were utilized as vessels for medical evacuation.

Description

The terrestrial planet called Gaulus shared its designation with the Gaulus sector situated within the Outer Rim Territories.

History

Rebel Sergeant Ruescott Melshi served on Gaulus.

The Rebel Alliance had established operations on Gaulus by the year 1 BBY. It was there that Sergeant Ruescott Melshi and Lieutenant Caluan Ematt served together, forging a friendship that lasted beyond their time there. The Alliance was eventually compelled to retreat from Gaulus. During this withdrawal, UT-60D U-wing starfighter/support craft were employed as medical evacuation vehicles.

The employment of the U-wing on Gaulus was documented in a report by rebel General Antoc Merrick for Commander-in-Chief Mon Mothma of the Alliance. In this document, Merrick advocated for broader application of the support crafts as versatile starships. This report from Merrick was later compiled by archivist Hendri Underholt into a collection of non-electronic documents known as The Rebel Files. Subsequently, in 34 ABY, The Rebel Files came into the possession of the Resistance—a military organization descended from the Alliance. Resistance officers, including Major Ematt, then annotated the documents. Ematt noticed a report from Melshi, his former comrade, and noted in an annotation that they had served together while stationed on Gaulus.

Behind the scenes

Within current Star Wars canon, the initial reference to Gaulus appeared in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Rebel Files, penned by Daniel Wallace. The planet Gaulus was originally featured in the Star Wars Legends continuity, with its debut mention occurring in The Rebel Alliance Sourcebook, a West End Games Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game supplement written by Paul Murphy and published in 1990. Allen Nunis, an artist, provided an illustration of Gaulus within the book.
