John Wagner (born July 18, 1949) is a freelance comic book writer.
He is notable for co-creating Judge Dredd for 2000 AD and for penning the graphic novel A History of Violence.
He has written several Star Wars comic books for Dark Horse Comics. Working on Star Wars titles, Wagner considers that the characters are well-defined and is easy to give them the proper role.
Ryder Windham admired Wagner's work, especially his Batman/Judge Dredd: Judgment on Gotham crossover, and hand-picked him for the Shadows of the Empire comic series. Wagner doesn't prefer working with ready synopses, since the story tends to "get stale", and the Shadows script begun as an outline by Steve Perry; however for him it grew and evolved thanks to changes coming back from Lucasfilm.
In the 1990s Wagner was living in a Tudor village outside London. The house he resided was built during the time of Henry VIII (also haunted, according to some stories), and it featured in some of his comics.
