Lorem served in the of Project Swarm, the Galactic Empire's search for the headquarters of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Believing she could both work and have fun, she kept up a constant stream of chatter with her colleagues. When her colleague Maela discovered footage of the rebel base on the planet Hoth in 3 ABY, Lorem celebrated with her and the other unit members, Azier and Dirjo Harch.
Lorem was a member of the Galactic Empire's for Project Swarm, an effort to discover the location of the Alliance to Restore the Republic's hidden headquarters during the Galactic Civil War. Having only recently started her Imperial service, Lorem's role was to sort through and analyze data packets that were sent by the 100,000 Viper probe droids deployed as part of the project, each of which had been deployed to a world to record footage while searching for the base.
While working in the unit's processing room in 3 ABY, Lorem's voice rang through the space when she asked her colleagues which of the last ten transmitted locations that they had seen would each pick to live on for the rest of their lives. Her colleague Dirjo Harch dismissed the question and told her to focus on her work, but Lorem persisted, claiming they were allowed to have fun. Azier, a more veteran data worker, pointed out that fun was probably not a priority for Admiral Firmus Piett, the man they reported to, causing Lorem to giggle. Azier then answered Lorem's question by saying he would rather stay on the starship they worked on then live on any location he had viewed.
Lorem, Azier and their colleague Maela then discussed the fact that no all of the probe droids would be reporting back, as some would be destroyed, causing Lorem to joke while grinning that this meant that the unit would be finished by the end of the day. She then asked Maela if any droids had been sent to Maela's homeworld, Vulpter, which Lorem had guessed was in the Deep Core from her colleague's accent. When Maela replied that no droids had gone to Vulpter, Azier laughed at the question, and when Lorem questioned why Harch explained that Vuplter was where most of the Vyper probe droids had been constructed.
After Lorem, Azier, and Harch had later left the room, Maela discovered a data packet from a probe droid on the planet Hoth that showed evidence of the rebel base. She reported the discovery over comms to Harch, causing him and the rest of the team to return and join Maela at her station. Once the group agreed that it was worth reporting, Harch took over Maela's station to send the footage to Piett, although Lorem questioned why Maela should not be the one to send it and receive the credit. Azier agreed with her, but Maela simply moved to another station to keep watching footage.
Based on the footage, the Empire sent forces to Hoth and defeated the Alliance there during the Battle of Hoth. Word was sent back from Piett's flagship, the Executor, that the report had been correct, causing Lorem to clap Maela on the shoulder and congratulate her. Harch announced that they should celebrate, causing Lorem to grab Maela's hand and pull her colleague away from her station to join them. Despite the success, the team continued their efforts to discovered the now relocated rebels.
While sorting through data, Lorem was able to keep up a steady stream of chatter to her colleagues and was always chipper, believing they could both complete their work and have fun. Maela admired Lorem's ability to multitask in this way, although Harch did not, and Maela like working with Lorem enough that she would have chosen her and Azier to work with in a team over Harch. Lorem had dark curly hair.
Lorem liked to press the boundaries of the dress code, wearing her cap at a jaunty angle over her curls, but never doing enough to give Harch an excuse to report her.
Lorem first appeared in "Eyes of the Empire," a short story written by Kiersten White and published in the 2020 anthology collection From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back.
