As a component of Project Swarm, countless Viper probe droids were deployed. Following the evacuation of Yavin 4, the Galactic Empire initiated an operation called Project Swarm to pinpoint the new location of the Alliance to Restore the Republic's headquarters. The concept for this project originated with Major Roj Ohjon from the Ubiqtorate, and it involved the widespread launching of Viper probe droids within hyperdrive pods to various points across the galaxy. Numerous analysts were given the task of examining the gathered information. However, the slow pace of advancement angered Lord Darth Vader, resulting in his execution of Major Yaltza, the project's original supervisor. Subsequently, General Maximilian Veers of the Imperial Army assumed leadership, at a time when 100,000 Viper droids had already been launched.
Professor Ud suggested that the Alliance had a history of utilizing ancient sites; based on this, Veers put together a team of archaeological consultants, including Chelli Lona Aphra. The initial site the team investigated was a deathshrine belonging to the Central Isopter located on Ash Moon 1. While the deathshrine did not house an Alliance base, Ud perished after setting off a booby trap, and Korin Aphra was discovered lurking nearby and taken into custody. Probe droids were sent to various locations, including Bovo Yagen, De'nel, Intran, Jinet, Kemix, Udine, and Zandrax. Eventually, probe XJ9-CS14 was deployed to the planet Hoth and successfully located the base, which directly led to a significant battle and the destruction of the Rebel base. This successful outcome of the project was recognized as a triumph for Military intelligence, leading to Major Ohjon's promotion to Colonel and his reassignment to Coruscant.
