The Rad were a group of Evereni whose name meant "to laugh" in their species' language. The Evereni siblings Vika and Velya Faer were familiar with the Rad and knew Evereni with the name. At some point no earlier than 379 BBY, the Faer siblings met the Evereni founder of a pirate group who would eventually become the Nihil—Marda Ro. Ro, desiring to learn more about her species, asked them to tell her about the Evereni. Vika and Velya obliged and told her, among other things, of the Rad.
Later, Ro made a recording for her descendants and mentioned the Rad as one of the things she learned from the Faers. By 252 BBY, during his youth, Ro's great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to her journal, including the message where the Rad were mentioned.
The Rad were mentioned in the short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," written by Tessa Gratton and published in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project. In an interview, he revealed the naming convention for the Evereni was one of the first parts she created. Gratton's motivation for creating the naming convention came from their frustration at the absence of naming conventions in Star Wars.
