379 BBY, also known as 379 Before the Battle of Yavin, designates a year within the 'ABY-BBY' dating system that falls within the bounds of the High Republic Era. During this approximate year, the Barabel individual named Petrish Imglor achieved the status of Jedi Knight. Simultaneously, the village of Peka, situated on the world of Batuu, began experiencing nightly attacks from a salmaca creature. One such assault led to the death of a villager named Tuntis. The Jedi Padawan Rooper Nitani successfully completed her Jedi Trials by resolving the salmaca situation and recovering the shield belonging to her Jedi Master, Silandra Sho, which resulted in her promotion to Jedi Knight.
Around that same temporal marker, Marda Ro, the Evereni who founded a group of raiders that would eventually evolve into the Nihil, encountered a Jedi at a marketplace while on her quest to find others of her species, and proceeded to attack him. Following this, aboard her starship known as the Gaze Electric, she fed the Jedi to a Force-consuming beast referred to as the Great Leveler.
The year 379 BBY is featured in both the short story "Shield of the Jedi" by George Mann and in a flashback sequence within the short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," penned by Tessa Gratton. Both of these short stories were included in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life, which forms part of the broader Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.
