Synth-smoke was a type of smoke. Around 381 BBY, the gas was present in a public house on the planet Dantooine, where its presence in the air created a haze that appeared brown under the public house's neon lights. During that time, Marda Ro—the Evereni founder of a pirate group who would eventually become the Nihil—visited the public house to quest for others of her species and saw the smoke.
Ro later mentioned synth-smoke in a journal entry she recorded for her descendants while recounting her visit to Dantooine. By 252 BBY, during his youth, Ro's great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to her journal, including the message where synth-smoke was mentioned.
