The Magys

Fleeing From Destruction

The Agbui, Haplif, was sent by the Grysk, Jixtus, to manipulate the Magys's species into starting a civil war that would completely eradicate Sunrise's population. The Magys, knowing of the Chiss Ascendancy, gathered two hundred refugees and managed to escape the planet on a vector towards the Ascendancy, where they would eventually arrive at the Paccian Governance homeworld of Rapacc. There, the Paccosh Uingali foar Marocsaa concealed the refugees' existence from the Nikardun, who were manipulated by Haplif into pursuing the refugees. The Magys would eventually persuade Uingali to send two Paccian refugee ships, one with the Magys's people and the other with Paccosh, to the Chiss Ascendancy, where she hoped that the Chiss would be able to help. However, the navigators hired by the Paccosh would coordinate with Nikardun General Yiv the Benevolent, who would destroy the Magysian refugee ship at the edge of the Chiss Ascendancy. This would spark the eventual defeat of the Nikardun by the hands of the Chiss. The Nikardun at Rapacc were also defeated by the Paccosh. The Magys was obligated to wait for nine of her months without any contact from her world before she could decide what to do with the refugees. This nine-month period was coming to an end when the Chiss would arrive at Rapacc via the Chiss warship Springhawk, where Uingali would inform Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo (Thrawn) and caregiver Mitth'ali'astov (Thalias) about the refugee's situation. Uingali informed the Chiss that the Magys intended to commit suicide, and, because her people were bound to her, this would result in the rest of the refugees also committing suicide. By this point, the relationship between the refugees and the Paccosh had deteriorated, and Uingali believed that Thalias would be the only one able to talk the Magys out of committing suicide (since the Magys's people were a matriarchal society).

Upon the Chiss arrival at the Magys's location on Rapacc, the Magys would recognize that Thalias had connections with the Beyond. The Magys, therefore, only allowed herself to converse with Thalias. During their conversation, the Magys informed Thalias about her people's situation and her intentions to die, join the "Beyond", and rebuild their world. The Magys told Thalias that her "time has ended", but Thalias challenged her to prove that there was no one left on her planet. She proposed to take the Magys to her homeworld to investigate the situation before she could make a decision on suicide. The Magys agreed and informed Thalias that she would like to bring a companion with her. Thalias agrees and makes the arrangements with Thrawn and Springhawk.

Return to Her World

During the journey back to her world, the Magys asks Thalias to participate in a religious ceremony, in which the Chiss would use an audiovisual kaleidoscope. Upon arriving at the world, the Magys would refuse to give the Chiss the name of the system, so, Thrawn named it "Sunrise" for the convenience of the Chiss. The Magys thought of this name as a mockery of her peoples' destruction, but Thrawn assures her that it comes from his desire to nurture hope. Upon examining the scorched surface of the planet, the Magys would immediately conclude that everyone on the planet is dead. Thrawn insisted that there is no definitive proof for that statement, but before they could reach an agreement on what to do next, the Springhawk was attacked by a group of unidentified gunboats. The Magys and her companion would subsequently be transported to their private quarters. After the battle, the Magys, convinced that her world was lost, ordered for her companion to die, and he does so. She was determined to return to Rapacc to command the rest of the refugees to also die, and Thrawn and Thalias try to talk her out of doing so. She insists, however, even going as far as to threaten to die aboard the Springhawk, which would inspire a new Magys to rise up and make the same decision to order the death of the refugees. To mitigate any more death, Thrawn orders for the Magys to be put to sleep in a hibernation chamber.

Later, the Magys would be awoken by Thrawn, Thalias, and Samakro. She demanded to know why they had deprived her of her responsibility to order her refugees to die and touch the Beyond and became determined to kill herself then and there. However, before she could do so, Thalias interjected and showed her a nyix brooch that had originated from Sunrise. In actuality, this brooch was stolen by a group of Agbui and given to the Chiss in a plot to foment a civil war in the Chiss Ascendancy. However, Thalias framed her arguments in a way that portrayed the brooch as having come from an emerging society on Sunrise. The Magys, recognizing the brooch as the style of the Southern Mountain artisans, was convinced to stay alive. She demanded to be returned to her people, but Thrawn told her that she would need to go back into hibernation, since if she was discovered by the other officers on the Springhawk, she would be taken to Csilla, where she would be investigated and interrogated. The Magys prepared to argue the point when she recognized the nearby presence of another Force user, the Springhawk's sky-walker, Che'ri, who had been sleeping in a nearby room. Upon learning of Che'ri presence, the Magys then agreed to go back into hibernation.
