Plot summary

Alexandra Winger and Doro, both operatives within the underground resistance on Garos IV, are secretly observing an Imperial mining center complex. Alex notices a threefold increase in Imperial personnel recently and suspects a significant purpose behind the ore shipments in the region. When another team from the underground is discovered during the mission, Alex and Doro attempt to flee. Doro is killed while they are trying to escape, but Alex manages to return to the governor's mansion safely. Alex is the adopted daughter of the governor, Tork Winger.

Alex experiences recurring dreams that she has a strong feeling will become reality. In one of these dreams, she is accompanied by a man with light brown hair and blue eyes as she climbs the Tahika Cliffs. The next morning, during breakfast, Tork requests Alex's assistance in hosting a dinner that evening for Captain Brandei of the Imperial Star Destroyer Judicator. Alex agrees to help and then departs for her classes at the university.

Following her classes, Alex meets with Dr. Carl Barzon and Magir Paca, who are leaders in the resistance movement on Garos IV. She provides them with a debriefing on the mission that resulted in Doro's death and learns that a cell member named Scat has been captured. Dr. Barzon reveals that he has identified a component within the local ore that grants natural cloaking capabilities. It is crucial that the underground prevent the Empire from acquiring this. Alex pledges to gather as much information as possible during the dinner and insists on participating in a bold daylight raid targeting an Imperial ore shipment.

Alex successfully executed her role in the resistance mission during the attack. However, on her way back home, she is discovered by a university classmate, Lej Carner, who takes her hostage. While being escorted to his landspeeder, another resistance member, Chance, kills Lej, allowing Alex to reach the dinner at the governor's mansion. During the dinner, Alex experiences another vision. This time, she finds herself in the landing bay of a starship, seated in the cockpit of an X-wing and seeing the man from her dreams.

After the dinner concludes, Alex took part in a successful operation to rescue Scat from Imperial Headquarters. During the rescue, Alex was able to warn other resistance members of sense of danger, when she felt a tingling sensation crawl up her spine not knowing she was Force-sensitive.
