A Jedi's Weapon

"A Jedi's Weapon" is a comic story that can be found within Star Wars: Tales—A Jedi's Weapon as well as Star Wars Tales issue 12.

Story Summary

The narrative follows Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker as they undertake a diplomatic assignment. On the planet Coruscant, they encounter King Sha-Mar Ma-dred of Kashir, who desires to become part of the Republic, along with his four strikingly beautiful wives. After their initial introduction, Anakin comments on the apparent friendliness of the Kashirim, questioning Obi-Wan's earlier warning. Obi-Wan dryly informs him that the Kashirim are widely known throughout the galaxy for their skill in thievery, which they value as a significant social attribute. As Ma-Dred's wives leave the negotiation room, Anakin's attention is diverted by their physical attributes, resulting in the theft of his lightsaber.

Anakin then embarks on a quest to retrieve his lightsaber before Obi-Wan discovers its loss. His search leads him to each of the wives, whom he questions individually, until he reaches the last one. She admits to losing it shortly after stealing it. Anakin is then compelled to hang precariously from a window when guards enter the room. Ultimately, Anakin concedes defeat and begins to dejectedly return to his quarters, only to encounter Kenobi. The Jedi Master reprimands Anakin regarding the importance of his lightsaber, and then returns it to him. He explains that he had subtly used the Force to recover it after witnessing the wife's theft. Surprised, Anakin inquires why Obi-Wan remained silent. Obi-Wan replies that honesty and mutual trust are essential between a Master and his Padawan, and that he was simply waiting for Anakin to confess to losing his lightsaber. Inspired by this spirit of openness, Anakin begins to awkwardly explain the lengths he went to in his attempt to recover the weapon, which predictably provokes Obi-Wan's outrage.
