A New Dawn in its complete and unabridged form is the audio version of the canon novel bearing the same title, penned by John Jackson Miller. Marc Thompson lent his voice to the audiobook's performance, which was put out by Random House Audio on September 2, 2014.
For countless generations, the Jedi Knights maintained tranquility and order throughout the Galactic Republic, empowered by their bond with the Force, a mystical energy field. However, they suffered betrayal, and the entire galaxy has suffered as a consequence. We are now in the Age of the Empire.
Now, Emperor Palpatine, formerly the Chancellor of the Republic and secretly a Sith acolyte of the Force's dark side, has imposed his own version of peace and order upon the galaxy. This "peace" is achieved through ruthless oppression, and "order" is enforced by increasing control over the lives of those he rules.
Yet, even as the Emperor tightens his oppressive control, some have begun to express doubts about his methods and intentions. Furthermore, numerous individuals, whose lives were shattered by Palpatine's schemes, are scattered across the galaxy like dormant explosives, poised to detonate. . . .
Following the completion of his prior novel, Kenobi, John Jackson Miller was approached by project Del Rey with an offer to create a tie-in novel for the then-upcoming Star Wars Rebels television series. Miller had completed approximately two-thirds of the novel when he learned that it would be the inaugural novel and audio production within the new Star Wars canon. Random House Audio released the audiobook alongside the hardcover edition of the novel on September 2, 2014, offering it as both a digital audiobook and a set of eleven compact discs. Kevin Thomsen served as the director, while Aaron Blank took on the role of producer.
