Ackbar's seapod
A schematic of the internal structure of Ackbar's seapod. The personal living quarters belonging to Admiral Ackbar on Mon Calamari, known as Ackbar's seapod, was situated within the expansive Mkbuto Seatree Preserve, stretching for kilometers.
Design
Constructed robustly from plastoid, the seapod featured a spherical form, complete with a small platform serving as a docking point for Ackbar's private utility sub. It remained afloat on the ocean's surface, secured by durable seatree trunks anchored deep below. Originally possessing a pale white hue, the pod's exterior became enveloped by seavines that climbed the anchor cables. This, coupled with the presence of green and brown algae, aided in camouflaging the pod within its natural habitat. Access to the pod was achieved through a compact aperture located on its underside. Force fields, in conjunction with basic pressure, prevented water from inundating the interior. The pod's interior comprised a single, split-level room, furnished with fixtures that extended from the floor. It incorporated a sleeping space, a kitchen area, and multiple scientific workstations.
Background
Ackbar chose the Mkbuto Preserve as his residence primarily due to the solitude it provided. Furthermore, it offered a location for him to investigate and analyze the geological disturbances and tremors impacting his home planet, which appeared to be linked to the World Devastators during the Battle of Calamari.
Following an incident in 11 ABY where Ackbar crashed his B-wing/E2 shuttle into the Cathedral of Winds on Vortex, resulting in its destruction and the deaths of hundreds of native Vors, he entered a period of self-imposed isolation on his native world. He withdrew from public life, seeking refuge in his personal seapod to further his geological studies. When Mon Mothma fell ill due to poisoning by Caridan Ambassador Furgan, Leia Organa Solo journeyed to Mon Calamari to convince him to rejoin the New Republic as Supreme Commander. Cilghal, Ackbar's niece, guided Leia to the seapod.
During this period, Admiral Daala launched an assault on the planet utilizing the Star Destroyers under her command. Setting aside his despondency, Ackbar departed from his seapod alongside Leia and Cilghal to assume command of the Mon Calamari defenses. He successfully mobilized the local forces and ultimately repelled the Imperial offensive, forcing Daala to retreat.
