An advanced concussion missile represents a specific type of projectile employed by starfighters throughout the Galactic Civil War.
In comparison to conventional concussion missiles, advanced versions boasted an elevated blast yield, a faster launch speed, and an enhanced capability to track moving targets for extended durations. A mere pair of these missiles proved sufficient for the complete destruction of a TIE Defender or a Delta-class DX-9 stormtrooper transport even with full shields active. Furthermore, they were identifiable by a green energy shield that enveloped their warheads.
Subsequent to the Battle of Hoth, Wedge Antilles, a pilot serving within the Rebel Alliance, uncovered the technological means to enhance the standard concussion missiles utilized by the A-wing into the advanced variant. This discovery occurred during a raid targeting the Imperial Academy situated on Prefsbelt IV.
Antilles also came across this technology during the battle of Dubrillion.
Other elements within the Rebel forces incorporated advanced concussion missiles into their spacecraft during the Galactic Civil War.
New Imperial starships such as the TIE Avenger, TIE Defender, and the Missile Boat were outfitted with advanced missiles (the Missile Boat's standard armament was two launchers each with 20 advanced missiles). The TIE Avengers of the turncoat Admiral Harkov never received advanced missiles, while Stele's loyalist unit of Avengers did, allowing Stele and his wingmen to overwhelm Harkov's fighters. During the Zaarin insurrection, Assault Gunboats and Mine Type Cs were also equipped with advanced missiles, as regular missiles were largely ineffective.
Imperial pilot Maarek Stele, when frequently encountering enemy Defenders in a Gunboat or Avenger, often preferred using advanced proton torpedoes instead. He would employ his tractor beam weapon to ensnare the opposing fighter, and a single advanced torpedo proved sufficient to eliminate a Defender at full strength.
The first appearance of advanced concussion missiles was in the video game Star Wars: TIE Fighter, where they functioned as a more potent missile type. They fulfilled an analogous function within Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance later on. Within Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, concussion missiles can be upgraded to the advanced version if the player acquires the upgrade during the Imperial Academy Heist mission during the daytime version. Obtaining this technology is a prerequisite for achieving the mission's gold medal, and this article operates under the assumption that the player successfully did so. The technology can also be obtained in the game's sequel Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike during the Guns of Dubrillion mission.
