Advanced Proton Torpedo

An Advanced Proton Torpedo represented a specific type of torpedo employed by starfighters throughout the era of the Galactic Civil War. In comparison to standard proton torpedoes, these torpedoes were characterized by an elevated blast rating and a faster exit velocity, although their target tracking duration was shorter.

During the Invasion of Naboo, Reti supplied Rhys Dallows, a pilot belonging to the Royal Naboo Security Forces, with advanced proton torpedoes for utilization in his N-1 starfighter.

Luke Skywalker, who held the position of commander within the Rebel Alliance's Rogue Squadron, made use of the advanced torpedoes in his T-65B X-wing starfighter. Approximately six months following the significant Battle of Yavin, he obtained an enhancement for his proton torpedoes during the Battle of Corellia.

Skywalker also came across this technology within the wreckage of a Rebel starship during the Ison Corridor ambush.

Subsequently, Wedge Antilles, who later became the leader of Rogue Squadron, also discovered this technology inside an Imperial escape pod during a battle that occurred on Geonosis.

Maarek Stele, often encountering enemy TIE/D Defenders while piloting an Assault Gunboat or TIE Avenger, frequently opted to replace the standard payload of advanced concussion missiles with advanced proton torpedoes. Despite the fact that neither ordinary nor advanced torpedoes were designed for engaging enemy starfighters, Stele employed his tractor beam to ensnare opposing fighters, with a single advanced torpedo proving sufficient to eliminate a fully operational TIE Defender. This tactic provided Stele with increased offensive capability, as his craft could accommodate 6 to 12 torpedoes as opposed to 8 to 16 missiles.

Following the Battle of Hoth, other Rebel forces also began utilizing advanced proton torpedoes.

Behind the scenes

The advanced proton torpedoes were initially introduced in Star Wars: TIE Fighter, functioning as a more potent version of the standard proton torpedo. They maintained this role in the subsequent game, Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance. In Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, it is possible to upgrade proton torpedoes to the advanced variant by acquiring the upgrade during the Corellian mission. Obtaining this technology is a prerequisite for achieving the mission's gold medal, and this article operates under the assumption that the player has done so. The technology can also be obtained in the game's sequels, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike.
