The complete and unabridged audio rendition of the canon novel of the same name, Aftermath marks the initial installment within the Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy by the accomplished author, Chuck Wendig. Narrated by Marc Thompson, the audiobook initially became available for download via Random House Audio on September 4, 2015. Subsequently, on September 8, 2015, a compact disc version was also made available.
In the wake of the Empire's devastating defeats during the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance, now transitioning into the nascent New Republic, intensifies its efforts to pursue and neutralize the scattered remnants of enemy forces before they can reorganize and strike back. However, above the distant world of Akiva, a concerning demonstration of the enemy's power emerges. While on a solitary reconnaissance mission, the pilot Wedge Antilles observes Imperial Star Destroyers converging, resembling predatory birds circling in anticipation of a kill. Tragically, he is captured before he can relay this crucial information to the New Republic leadership.
Concurrently, on the planet's surface, Norra Wexley, a former Rebel fighter, returns to her home world, weary from war and yearning to reconnect with her estranged son, with aspirations of establishing a new life far away. However, upon intercepting Wedge Antilles's desperate distress signal, Norra realizes that her days as a freedom fighter are not yet behind her. Unbeknownst to her, the enemy is much closer than she anticipates, and her impending mission will prove to be both pivotal and perilous.
Driven to safeguard the Empire's authority, the surviving members of the Imperial elite are converging on Akiva for a highly confidential emergency summit, aiming to consolidate their forces and orchestrate a retaliatory strike. Yet, they have underestimated Norra and her newly formed alliance, which includes her technologically gifted son, a Zabrak bounty hunter, and a renegade Imperial defector, all of whom are prepared to take whatever measures are necessary to permanently dismantle the Empire's oppressive rule.
Marc Thompson lent his voice to the audiobook, which was distributed by Random House Audio as a downloadable digital file on September 4, 2015. A physical release followed shortly after, with an eleven-disc compact disc set hitting shelves on September 8. Kevin Thomsen directed the project, while Aaron Blank took on the role of executive producer.
