Alamass, a planet located far away in the Outer Rim Territories, was an extremely frigid world characterized by icy tundra and violent ammonia floes. A stronghold was maintained on this planet by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, but it came under attack from the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The story goes that the tactical droid appointed by General Grievous to oversee the assault determined that Grievous' strategy would result in a needless waste of numerous battle droids because of the perilous environment of the planet. Consequently, the tactical droid, unwilling to permit further pointless destruction of droids, defied its directives and instead directed their forces toward a less hazardous area. The Republic was able to foresee the attack and prepare to protect their stronghold because of the droids' placement. Although the Separatists were defeated as a result of the tactical droid's revised plans, droid casualties were kept to a minimum.
