Alin was a male officer of the Human species who served the Galactic Empire during its reign. Some time after the Battle of Yavin, Alin, holding the rank of Lieutenant, found himself stationed at an Imperial space station situated in the Outer Rim Territories. He was joined by fellow officers including Warrant Officer Snopell, Captain Clough, Lieutenant Farin, Captain Bailie, Colonel Sheray, and Major Taison. In 1 ABY, an Imperial-class Star Destroyer captured a freighter carrying passengers, suspecting it of harboring criminals. Several spacers were detained and brought to the Imperial space station. Following their release, Lieutenant Alin processed these spacers as they departed from the station.
The character of Alin appeared as a non-player character in Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game released in 2003. The video game was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts. The game was shut down on December 15, 2011.
When the "New Player Tutorial" was revamped via "Publish 17" on May 26, 2005, Lieutenant Alin was introduced into the game. Alin, along with other Imperial officers, guided new players through a space station as part of the tutorial, assisting them in learning the game's mechanics. However, Alin was subsequently removed when the developers launched a completely new tutorial with the "New Game Enhancements" update, released on November 15, 2005.
