Plot summary

Bobbajo, a wandering Nu-Cosian known as both "the Storyteller" and "the Crittermonger" due to his menagerie and storytelling prowess, arrives at the small Jakku settlement of Reestkii. He entertains the village children with his yellow-bellied sand lizards, but their fun is cut short when a ship unexpectedly appears in the sky.

The ship lands, revealing itself to be crewed by Zygerrian enslavers intending to force the entire village into slavery. The villagers are rounded up and confined within a small town hall as the slavers loot the village. Fear grips everyone, but Bobbajo remains composed. He assures them that everything will be alright and begins to spin a tale.

While the villagers are huddled together, Bobbajo narrates an outlandish story about himself and his creatures being trapped inside the Galactic Empire's dreaded Death Star superweapon. In the story, Bobbajo is captured by stormtroopers, but his creatures, including Smeep, Qyp and Mideyean, collaborate to free him and destroy the Death Star. They sabotage its superlaser, causing it to turn on itself and obliterate the battle station when the Empire tries to fire it.

The villagers enjoy the story, but they insist that the Rebel Alliance's heroes were the ones who destroyed the Death Star. Bobbajo claims that there are "other truths" before stepping outside. The villagers are shocked to discover that the slavers have been defeated, seemingly by Bobbajo's creatures. Bobbajo tells the villagers that while his story may have been fictional, they should never underestimate the strength and power of stories. He then departs in search of another story to share.
