These are regions allied with, and Imperial client states.
Allied Region was a designation applied to largely self-governing parts of the galaxy that existed within the Galactic Republic, and later galactic governments, while retaining significant independence.
The Allied Region designation was traditionally granted to smaller areas whose planets had formed unified interstellar empires well before being discovered by the Galactic Republic. These areas became part of the Republic either voluntarily or through military conquest during its expansion. The warlords who governed these areas and chose to join the Republic instead of fighting were awarded the titles of Moff or Grand Moff. Eventually, the majority of Allied Regions underwent reorganization or division into Republic sectors. The Ruusan Reformation ultimately led to the abolishment of the Moff and Grand Moff titles.
A millennium later, very few Allied Regions were left following the rise of the Galactic Empire. Some, like the Ollonir Boundaries and the Botor Enclave, managed to maintain some of their limited authority. These regions effectively became Imperial client states. Most of these areas were later formally recognized as Allied Regions under the New Republic and the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances.
