The Botor Enclave, a region within the Core Worlds, encompassed approximately two dozen star systems, notably the Botor system and the Kerensik system. This territory served as the home of the sentient Botori species, who were known for their millennia of conflict with the Dawferim Humans residing in the adjacent Daupherm Planet States. Initially holding the designation of an Allied Region under the Galactic Republic, the Botor Enclave later asserted its independence from both the Galactic Empire and the New Republic following the Empire's dismemberment after the Battle of Endor.
The Botor Enclave was geographically positioned in the Southern Core area of the Core Worlds. It shared a border with the Daupherm Planet States and the southern reaches of the Deep Core.
After gaining recognition as an Allied Region by the Galactic Republic in the early days of that governing body, the Botori people of the Botor Enclave and their long-standing adversaries, the Dawferim Humans from the nearby Daupherm Planet States, engaged in at least forty separate wars, with some of these conflicts lasting for centuries. Over the subsequent millennia, a complex system of laws and customs developed to govern almost every aspect of these conflicts, including vendettas, privateering, and full-scale warfare. The Republic, and later its successor, the Galactic Empire, only intervened in these Botor-Daupherm disputes when they threatened to extend into the wider galaxy.
Around 30 BBY, the pirate who was the mother of the Dawferim Evram Darkmere died during one of the protracted wars between the Botor Enclave and the Daupherm Planet States. By 10 ABY, a five-hundred-years-long, low-intensity feud had developed between the Botor Enclave and the Dawferim, attracting outlaws and scavengers from neighboring star systems. Furthermore, by this time, the systems comprising the Botor Enclave unified to form a protective federation, prompted by the absence of a strong centralized galactic government and the ongoing conflict between the Empire and the New Republic following the Empire's collapse at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. This process also involved the Botor Enclave declaring its independence from both the Empire and the New Republic.
The Botor Enclave was populated by the Botori, a sentient species that possessed ursine characteristics. Around 25 ABY, the population of the Botor system was estimated to be between 100 million and 500 million. The Botor Income Ministry functioned as an institution within the Botor Enclave by the time of the Battle of Endor.
The Botor Enclave consisted of roughly two dozen star systems, including the Botor and Kerensik systems, situated along the edges of a nebula. The Kerensik system housed Kerensik, a frozen planet. This planet was the homeworld of the Human Kane Griggs, who enrolled in a Galactic Empire university located off-world several years before 0 BBY.
The area surrounding the Botor system underwent extensive exploration between 15,000 BBY and 8000 BBY and became integrated into the Galactic Republic by approximately 12,000 BBY. Spanning from approximately 17,000 BBY to 3956 BBY, the Botor system was situated along the hyperlane known as the Hidakai Pool, which provided a connection to the Abregado and Daupherm systems. However, this hyperspace route had ceased to exist by 1004 BBY.
The Botor system remained within the Republic's borders during the concluding phase of the New Sith Wars from 1004 BBY to 1000 BBY, and subsequently during the Clone Wars from 22 BBY to 19 BBY. During the initial stages of the Clone Wars, the Republic's Twentieth Army was assigned to protect the system's vicinity from the military forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. By 17 BBY, the Botor system had been absorbed into the Galactic Empire's territory. Forty-six years later, New Republic military forces traversed the system as part of the war effort against the extragalactic Yuuzhan Vong invaders.
The Botor Enclave was initially referenced in the 1993 Dark Empire Sourcebook, penned by Michael Allen Horne for use with the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games.
