Dawferim

The Dawferim, who are also known as the Dauferim, were a Human population. They held dominion over more than thirty star systems situated within the Daupherm Planet States area of the Core Worlds. From the dawn of the Galactic Republic, the Dawferim participated in a minimum of forty conflicts against the Botori species residing in the neighboring Botor Enclave, with certain clashes stretching across centuries.

In the vicinity of 30 BBY, a pirate met their end during one of these wars, leaving their Dawferim son, Evram Darkmere, who was ten years of age, to provide for himself and his younger sibling, Garreck. In the years that followed, Darkmere would eventually become a member of the Daupherm Merchant Space Fleet and the Daupherm Marine Corps, after which he started a career as a pirate. Roughly around 10 ABY, the Daupherm Planet States proclaimed their sovereignty, breaking away from both the Galactic Empire and the New Republic.

Description

The Dawferim, alternatively called the Dauferim, constituted a Human community that exerted control over in excess of thirty star systems—including the Daupherm system—within the boundaries of the Daupherm Planet States, a section of the Core Worlds. Their designation was synonymous with the collection of systems recognized as the Dawferim Selfhood States. The Daupherm Systems Fleet, the Daupherm Marine Corps, and the Daupherm Merchant Space Fleet all operated within the Daupherm Planet States, which also housed a minimum of one orphanage.

History

Endless Conflicts

The Dawferim inhabited the Daupherm Planet States and constantly conflicted with the Botor Enclave.

During the initial stages of the Galactic Republic, the Daupherm Planet States formally recognized their position as an Allied Region under the Republic's jurisdiction. Ever since that time, the Dawferim and their longstanding adversaries, the Botori species originating from the adjacent Botor Enclave, found themselves embroiled in no less than forty separate wars, with some of these conflicts spanning entire centuries. Over the ensuing millennia, a comprehensive framework of laws and customs emerged, governing practically every facet of these hostilities, encompassing vendettas, privateering, and large scale warfare.

The Dawferim boy named Evram Darkmere was born to a female pirate circa 40 BBY. Around the time Darkmere reached the age of ten years, his mother died amidst one of the protracted wars waged between the Daupherm Planet States and the Botor Enclave. Consequently, Darkmere was tasked with the responsibility of caring for both himself and his younger brother, Garreck. Two years later, Darkmere enlisted in the Daupherm Merchant Space Fleet as a cabin boy, while his sibling was placed within the confines of an orphanage. The elder Dawferim was later conscripted into the Daupherm Marine Corps, where he served a five-year term.

The Imperial Period

Following the conclusion of his service, Darkmere associated himself with Gorvan Shrulldike, his former captain, who absconded with their Discril-class attack cruiser with the intent of pursuing a career as a pirate. Some years down the line, Darkmere himself assumed command of the attack cruiser—his pirate company comprised of former associates from his time within the Daupherm Merchant Space Fleet—as well as an informant for the Rebel Alliance. At some juncture, not long after the Battle of Yavin, Alliance General Airen Cracken incorporated an entry pertaining to Darkmere into a datafile cataloging various Rebel operatives.

By approximately 10 ABY, the Dawferim and the Botor Enclave had been engaged in a minor feud for half a millennium. Around that same timeframe, the Daupherm Planet States also formally announced their independence from both the Galactic Empire and the New Republic.

Behind the Curtain

The Dawferim were initially referenced in the Dark Empire Sourcebook, a 1993 publication by Michael Allen Horne released by West End Games to accompany Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Mike Jackson provided the illustration of the Dawferim Evram Darkmere for the 1994 sourcebook titled Cracken's Rebel Operatives, while the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry presented the alternative designation of "Dauferim" for the group.
