The Botori, alternatively known as the Botor, constituted a sentient species that populated roughly two dozen star systems situated within the Botor Enclave located in the Core Worlds. From the early days of the Galactic Republic onward, the Botori and the Dawferim Humans hailing from the neighboring Daupherm Planet States were frequently at war, with some conflicts dragging on for centuries. Around the year 10 ABY, the Botor Enclave proclaimed its autonomy, separating itself from both the Galactic Empire and the New Republic.

The Botori made their home in approximately twenty-four star systems located on the edge of a nebula within the Botor Enclave of the Core Worlds. Among these were the Botor system and the Kerensik system, which housed the planet known as Kerensik, the original homeworld of the Human figure Kane Griggs.
After becoming an Allied Region of the Galactic Republic in its early years, the Botori and their long-standing adversaries, the Dawferim Humans from the adjacent Daupherm Planet States, engaged in at least forty separate wars, some of which spanned centuries. Over the following millennia, numerous rules and customs developed to govern nearly every aspect of these conflicts, including vendettas, privateering, and full-scale warfare. The Republic, along with its successor state, the Galactic Empire, only intervened in the conflicts between the Botor and Daupherm when they threatened to affect the wider galaxy.
By the year 10 ABY, the Botor Enclave and the Dawferim were embroiled in a minor feud that had lasted for five hundred years. Furthermore, around this time, the systems within the Botor Enclave united to form a protective federation due to the absence of a strong central galactic authority and the ongoing conflict between the Empire and the New Republic. As a result, the Botor Enclave declared its independence from both the Empire and the New Republic.
The Botori were initially mentioned as the "Botor" within the Dark Empire Sourcebook, a 1993 sourcebook by Michael Allen Horne published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The 2009 reference work The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry identified the inhabitants of the Botor Enclave as a distinct species and designated them as Botori.
