The Aparian Wastes represented a stone-filled landscape situated on Serenno, a planet within the Outer Rim Territories. In the time leading up to the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems erected the Spike, an expansive subterranean prison, in this area. This prison was designed to house significant prisoners whom Count Dooku desired to personally question. A second prison serving a comparable function existed beneath Castle Serenno, also located on Serenno.
The De Agostini publication, Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon 70, initially referenced the area. Nevertheless, the 2019 reference book, Collapse of the Republic, provided the first detailed exploration of the location. Within Star Wars Legends continuity, the eighth edition of the Star Wars: Agent of the Empire comic book series, released by Dark Horse Comics, marked the location's initial introduction.
