The Spike, a massive subterranean penal institution, was erected within the rugged Aparian Wastes region of the world known as Serenno. This structure, resembling an upside-down cone burrowed far into the earth, comprised ten distinct tiers, with the most secure confinement areas situated on the deepest levels. During the era of the Clone Wars, the recently completed Spike served as a detention center for the Confederacy of Independent Systems, housing prominent captives and persons of interest that Count Dooku desired to personally question. A similar jail was also in operation within Castle Serenno for analogous reasons.
The initial reference to this place occurred in the Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon 70 periodical released by De Agostini. Nevertheless, its first detailed depiction was in the 2019 reference book, Collapse of the Republic. In Star Wars Legends continuity, the site debuted in the eighth installment of the Star Wars: Agent of the Empire comic book series, brought to publication by Dark Horse Comics.
