Aquilae (Aquilae system)

Aquilae, a planet in the Colonies region situated along the Hydian Way, served as an old colony for the Duros.

History

Sometime between 25,000 BBY and 22,000 BBY, Aquilae became a member of the Galactic Republic early on. The Duros discovered and then colonized this world.

Behind the scenes

A brief mention of Aquilae by Han Solo in Star Wars (1977) 7 implies its location on the opposite side of the galaxy from Aduba-3.

Aquilae was among the initial planet names present in the early iterations of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, tracing back to the first story treatment. In the shooting script, Luke Skywalker still made reference to Aquilae, along with the planet Sullust, but ultimately, this line was omitted from the final version of the film.

In that initial story treatment, Aquilae, the Latin plural or genitive form of aquila, meaning "eagle", was depicted as a blue-green terrestrial planet under threat from a space fortress (which later evolved into the Death Star). It housed the starport Gordon, and served as the home of an unnamed princess.

Within the rough draft, the princess was initially identified as Leia, the daughter of King Kayos. She ascends to the throne of Aquilae at the script's conclusion. It was the originating planet of Kane Starkiller and his offspring Deak and Annikin Starkiller. In the first draft the planet's name was changed to Townowi; by the second draft it only appears in the name of the Aquillian Rangers.

In the revised first draft of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, Neva Kee was originally from Aquilae; this was subsequently changed to Xagobah.
