Arreyel, a diminutive planet exhibiting blue and white hues, resided within a system situated in the Inner Rim.
During the Clone Wars, Arreyel became a member of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Following the establishment of the Galactic Empire, however, Arreyel incurred the displeasure of Emperor Sheev Palpatine. Consequently, the planet experienced a severe economic downturn, with minimal prospects for revival due to scarce resources.
The Apprentice Legislature was presented with a choice of four systems, Arreyel among them, in 3 BBY, for the location of a future aeronautical engineering and design academy. Leia Organa of Alderaan advocated for its selection. However, she was later heartbroken to discover that they had been tricked as part of an Imperial scheme. Organa believed that the Legislature's decision to scan the planet gave them reason to run intensive scans, in which the Empire discovered a potent radiation source beneath the planet's surface, which the Empire was seeking. The Empire intended to construct factories across the entire planet, granting the inhabitants a mere six weeks to leave without any form of reimbursement.
Arreyel's initial appearance was in Leia, Princess of Alderaan, a young adult novel from 2017 penned by Claudia Gray. It was launched as a component of Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
