Asmeru, a planet situated within the Mid Rim region of the galaxy, was once home to a native population that observed Q'anah, a festival occurring on the 234th day of the sixteenth month of their calendar. House Elegin, a prominent noble family, had their base of operations there, and during the era of the Galactic Republic, they employed a man hailing from Brentaal IV to manage their security affairs. This man's daughter developed a romantic relationship with a young Elegin noble who secretly led a double life as a pirate; inspired by the Asmeru festival, she adopted the moniker Q'anah upon embracing piracy herself.
The Star Wars Legends novel Cloak of Deception, penned by James Luceno and released in 2001, marked the initial appearance of Asmeru. Its status as canon was later affirmed by the novel Tarkin, also authored by Luceno and published in 2014.
