"Bakurat" is a brief narrative that appeared in the Dark Legends edition sold exclusively at Target stores. George Mann penned the story, Grant Griffin provided the illustrations, and its publication date was August 30, 2020.
Legend tells that after a successful smuggling operation, a man by the name of Barbas received a Barkarat reading from Mila and Sir Kron inside Maz Kanata's castle. Sir Kron interpreted Barbas's fortune after a three-card draw. The interpretation was: first, Barbas would encounter love in an unexpected setting; second, he would forfeit that love due to his own negligence; and third, his demise would swiftly follow. The subsequent day, Barbas and his team departed from Takodana to undertake their next two smuggling assignments. The first involved transporting a Resistance operative named Misette from Tarolax to a Quellus abandoned monitoring station. The second task was to ferry a perilous being known as a Karlox to the Hutts.
In the ensuing days, Barbas and Misette engaged in extensive conversations, and gradually, they both developed romantic feelings for one another. However, one evening, Barbas overheard his fellow crew members discussing the possibility of selling Misette to the First Order, knowing they would offer a substantial sum for a Resistance spy. That very night, Barbas instructed Misette to remain secured within her quarters until she received his signal. Subsequently, he released the Karlox upon his crew. Following a two-hour period during which the creature attacked and eliminated the crew, Barbas emerged from his quarters and terminated the creature using a blaster he had concealed. Nevertheless, he realized he had failed to specify the signal to Misette, and she had opened her door during the chaos and was killed by the creature. Having already been alerted, the First Order arrived and executed Barbas.
