Baleen-class heavy freighter

The Baleen-class heavy freighter, a type of bulk freighter, was designed for the transportation of extremely large quantities of goods.

Description

These Baleen-class freighters, measuring roughly 400 meters in length, weren't known for their maneuverability. However, their ability to transport vast amounts of cargo throughout the galaxy on a day-to-day basis made them indispensable for trade. While in transit, the forward compartment could be opened and used to recover objects adrift in space, even entire starships. Constructed in orbital [shipyards](/article/shipyard], these vessels were intentionally designed to avoid entering a planet's atmosphere, instead docking at space stations and transfer facilities for loading and unloading.

The ship's massive front bay could also function as a docking bay, specifically for cargo requiring special handling. The remaining cargo was secured to the transport grid positioned between the engines and the bow, resulting in a complex arrangement of goods.

History

The Eravana was one such freighter, serving as the vessel of choice for Han Solo and Chewbacca after they lost the Millennium Falcon. The original design schematics for the Baleen-class were stored at the Corellian Command Base located in Coronet City.

They made a successful escape from the gangs aboard the Falcon, initiating a jump to hyperspace, which left the Eravana in the possession of the Guavians. Bala-Tik then immediately instructed his subordinates to notify the First Order regarding Solo and the droid's escape from the ship.

During the battle of Exegol in 35 ABY, at least 25 Baleen-class heavy freighters formed part of a fleet assembled by Lando Calrissian to provide support to the Resistance against the Sith Eternal forces above the planet Exegol.
