Once, Bane Nothos had ambitions to become an Imperial District Commander, with responsibility for the region encompassing the Roche asteroid field. A gifted tactician, Nothos was hand-picked by Emperor Palpatine for a mission: to sabotage and eliminate Admiral Gial Ackbar's Shantipole Project, a project overseen by Verpine individuals residing within the Roche asteroids. To aid him, he received a brand-new EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate to secure the asteroid field.
To act as his eyes and ears, Nothos successfully placed an Imperial operative, Salin Glek, within the Shantipole Project's personnel. Rather than just acquiring schematics, he let the Shantipole Project progress, with the intention of seizing fully functional B-wing starfighters.
Drawing upon the information provided by Glek, Nothos attacked the project, even managing to seize the B-wing prototypes. He initially anticipated Ackbar's strategies, but Rebel operatives, including Ackbar himself, successfully thwarted his attempt to commandeer the project. To add insult to injury, the Rebels even commandeered Nothos's Nebulon-B frigate, further enraging the Imperial officer. The Shantipole Project proved to be a resounding triumph for the Alliance, resulting in Nothos's subsequent demotion.

Following the Shantipole failure, he was reassigned to command the Imperial Outer Rim Territories Patrol Fleet. During this assignment, a team of Alliance spies captured him. While being transported to an Alliance penal colony aboard the starship Celestial, he orchestrated an escape. Although the transport experienced a hyperdrive malfunction and vanished into Otherspace, Nothos successfully escaped. However, following his rescue aboard Ravik's vessel, he was compelled to submit to the authority of Grand Moff Ravik. In Otherspace, the Imperials established contact with Ber'asco, the leader of the Charon Death Cult who patrolled Otherspace in his ship, the Desolate.
Later, Nothos faced a group of Alliance agents who had been sent to take control of the Celestial, and he attempted to rescue the transport's crew from Otherspace. The Alliance agents were forced into combat aboard the Desolate, and Nothos attempted to throw a thermal detonator into the fray to eliminate them. However, the detonator exploded prematurely, creating a massive breach in the ship's hull.
Nothos and his Imperial subordinates were presumed dead in the explosion, but Nothos somehow survived. He was captured and placed in cryogenic stasis, while Ber'asco engaged in a bizarre mental duel with Ravik. After Ravik defeated the Charon leader, Ber'asco's consciousness seized control of Nothos's body, using it to pursue Ravik. During a confrontation on the planet Stronghold, Ber'asco, using Nothos's body, almost defeated Ravik, but the stronger Ravik crushed him in his grasp, resulting in the deaths of both Ber'asco and Nothos.
