Bassi Vobah was a female Human serving as a police officer within the Oseon system during the Galactic Civil War. Originating from Oseon, a place of extreme wealth, yet coming from humble origins, Vobah chose a career path in law enforcement to provide for her family, though she often felt unfulfilled. In 3 BBY, Vobah was tasked with assisting Lando Calrissian, a gambler, in a drug operation that aimed to catch Bohhuah Mutdah, a rich industrialist. However, she met her death when her partner, Waywa Fybot, betrayed her by revealing his allegiance to Mutdah.
Bassi Vobah hailed from the affluent Oseon system located in the Centrality. She was born to merchant parents who had moved to the system but struggled to achieve financial stability. Vobah found herself responsible for supporting both herself and her parents, leading her to pursue a career in law enforcement. She joined the local police force on Oseon 6845 and eventually served directly under Administrator Senior Lob Doluff. Vobah derived little pleasure from her work, and her life was one of tiresome routine until 3 BBY, when she became entangled in a plot involving a gambler by the name of Lando Calrissian. Doluff, her superior, had been blackmailed by the immensely wealthy industrialist Bohhuah Mutdah, who demanded that Doluff deliver Calrissian—against whom he apparently held a personal grudge—to his estate on Oseon 5792.
Doluff lured Calrissian to Oseon with an invitation to a high-stakes sabacc game. Vobah also participated in the sabacc games, playing poorly but vigilantly observing Calrissian. However, events were soon set in motion by forces beyond their control. Calrissian received a call during a game informing him that his ship was on fire, and he was attacked by a Renatasian partisan seeking his droid, Vuffi Raa. Calrissian was compelled to kill the assailant with a concealed stingbeam weapon, violating Oseon's strict ban on personal weaponry. Vobah herself arrested Calrissian, bitterly lamenting that she would have to work during Flamewind, a massive radiation storm in the Oseon system that was a popular tourist attraction. However, Doluff had grown fond of Calrissian and, wanting to give him a chance, assigned Vobah and undercover narcotics agent Waywa Fybot to accompany Calrissian to Mutdah's estate to assist in arresting Mutdah in a drug sting.
The journey to Oseon 5792 proved to be perilous. First, Calrissian's Millennium Falcon had to navigate through Flamewind, which damaged the ship and caused Vobah to experience intense hallucinations. They were also pursued by Renatasian allies of the man Calrissian had killed, leading to a battle within the Oseon asteroid belt. Furthermore, Vobah had to save Calrissian's life when an unknown perpetrator sabotaged Calrissian's enviro-suit before he could use it for ship repairs. Vobah pulled Calrissian back into the safety of the ship. Despite the dangers, the Millennium Falcon reached Mutdah's estate, allowing Calrissian, Vobah, and Fybot to proceed with the sting operation. However, as Vobah drew her pistol to arrest Mutdah, Fybot—who was secretly working for Mutdah—shot her in the head before she could realize she had been double-crossed.
Bassi Vobah, a simple woman from a modest background, harbored a deep resentment for the wealthy elite that she was surrounded by in the Oseon system, and whom she was obligated to serve as a police officer. Law enforcement was not Vobah's true calling; it was merely a means to support herself and her family, a routine she had fallen into that provided little satisfaction. She did experience a sense of fulfillment when her job allowed her to punish those she deemed "evil-doers," but such opportunities were rare. Her annual respite was Flamewind, a festive period where she could unwind from her work and interact with beings of all species and backgrounds. Part of her resentment towards Lando Calrissian stemmed from the fact that his arrest forced her to miss Flamewind entirely, as well as her disapproval of his lack of honest labor. By 3 BBY, Vobah was a relatively young woman with blonde hair, whom Calrissian considered to be relatively attractive.
Bassi Vobah made an appearance in Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon, penned by L. Neil Smith and published in 1983.
