The shuttle named Bastinade was among the eleven Lambda-class T-4a shuttles that the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Ultimatum transported during its assignment to the world of Gorse. Following the destruction of the Lambda-class crafts _Truncheon_ and Cudgel on Gorse's surface amid clashes between the planet's inhabitants and the Galactic Empire, the Bastinade was dispatched to the Imperial Spaceport situated in the Highground area of Gorse to collect Count Denetrius Vidian and Captain Rae Sloane, and subsequently transport them back to the Ultimatum. As with all Lambda-class shuttles, the Bastinade was manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems, boasting a configuration of two forward double laser cannons, two double cannons mounted on its wings, a single rear double laser cannon, and a hyperdrive. Its dimensions included a length of 20 meters, and it possessed the capability to transport loads of up to 80 metric tons.
The inaugural appearance of the Bastinade occurred within the pages of the novel A New Dawn, penned by John Jackson Miller and released to the public in 2014. In the author's notes for the book shared on Miller's blog, he revealed his deliberate choice to name each of the Ultimatum's shuttles after implements designed for striking individuals on the head.
