Battle in the Silken Asteroids

A clash unfolded at the Silken Asteroids, pitting the forces of the Galactic Empire, under the command of Moff Derliff, against a Rebel Alliance installation. Jan Dodonna led the Rebels, ultimately securing a victory by routing Derliff's contingent.

Prelude

Sometime circa 2 BBY, the Rebel Alliance established a presence within the Silken Asteroids. This location was subsequently discovered by Imperial-class Star Destroyers under the authority of Moff Derliff.

The six Z-95 Headhunters stationed at the Rebel base successfully repelled Derliff's initial assault. This attack consisted of a squadron composed of both TIE/LN starfighters and TIE/sa bombers. General Jan Dodonna, after consolidating his forces, directed the base's R2-D5 labor droids to bolster the defenses. Subsequently, he launched an offensive against Derliff's position, successfully expelling the Imperials.

Aftermath

The Rebels achieved victory in the conflict due to the Imperial base's destruction.

Behind the scenes

The Battle of Silken Asteroids was initially referenced within the strategy guide accompanying the 2001 video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. It served as the challenge mission within the Princess Leia campaign. Players were afforded complete latitude in developing both their base and military strength, although the strategy guide advocated for the creation of a substantial fighter squadron. The primary objective involved the obliteration of the Imperial base. This mission, and consequently the battle itself, was also incorporated into the game's 2002 expansion, Clone Campaigns.

The strategy guide mistakenly identifies the Z-95 Headhunters present at the mission's outset as "X-wings." Furthermore, the precise quantity of structures the player can construct, as well as the size of the Imperial forces, is contingent upon player actions and underlying game mechanics. However, the guide specifies that the player begins with five workers, the maximum population is capped at 75, and a minimum of 55 spacecraft are required to successfully complete the level.
