The Battle of Bothawui was triggered by information given to the Galactic Alliance Defense Force by Colonel Jacen Solo and the Galactic Alliance Guard. This intelligence revealed that the Bothan military had recently acquired a new class of frigate from the Tallaani Shipyards.
Supreme Commander Cha Niathal, eager to gather more information about a new Confederation Fleet asset, journeyed to the Bothan sector to meet up with Alliance military units that were monitoring the Bothan fleet's movements. While aboard the warship Bounty, the Alliance fleet was approached by a lone Bothan frigate, which was accompanied by five unarmed tenders.
After the deployment of the X-wing unit Mothma Squadron to perform a scan of the vessel, eighteen additional Bothan frigates materialized from hyperspace. The engagement resulted in the destruction of several X-wings from Mothma Squadron. In response, Captain Piris dispatched two more units: Qaresi Squadron and Bronzium Squadron. A fierce battle then erupted, with the Bounty and the frigate Daring engaging the Bothan fleet in intense exchanges of fire. Despite their numerical advantage, the superior firepower of the Alliance forces secured their victory. Out of the nineteen frigates deployed by the Bothans, only seven managed to escape the conflict, while the remaining twelve were either destroyed or rendered inoperable.
Even though the battle resulted in a victory for the Alliance, it reinforced Admiral Niathal's belief that the Defense Force needed to prioritize its efforts on defeating Corellia, Commenor, and Bothawui. However, the Defense Force was facing increasing strain due to the growing number of conflicts across various planets.
