Battle of the Redoubt

The engagement known as the Battle of the Redoubt took place in 22 ABY. It involved a coalition of forces including the Chiss Ascendancy, supported by the Empire of the Hand, the New Jedi Order, and the remaining individuals from Outbound Flight, who together fought against the forces of the Vagaari Empire.

Prelude

Before the conflict, Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade Skywalker embarked on the Chiss Ascendancy diplomatic vessel, the Chaf Envoy, to undertake the journey to the Redoubt. This location held what remained of the Outbound Flight fleet. They were greeted by Aristocra Chaf'orm'bintrano and were joined by Chak Fel, the commander of the Empire of the Hand, Dean Jinzler, an envoy from the New Republic, and several Geroons accompanied by their spherical transport for refugees. The Geroons expressed their desire to honor the Outbound Flight Jedi who had liberated them from the oppressive rule of their Vagaari overlords.

The Chaf Envoy reaches the Redoubt.

However, the Geroons were, in actuality, the Vagaari themselves, and their so-called refugee transport was, in reality, a Paskla-class cruiser. The true nature of the Geroons would not be discovered by the expedition until they were exploring the Outbound Flight vessel – a fuselage containing the space station that housed the explorers, attached to six Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers. After an encounter with the forces of Thrawn, the Outbound Flight made a crash landing on a small planetoid within the Redoubt. Only the uppermost Dreadnaught was visible, protruding from the loose shale that formed the planetoid's surface.

Battle

During the exploration, the expedition encountered the survivors of Outbound Flight, who had established a colony that had existed for nearly five decades. The Geroons soon revealed their true identities as Vagaari, seeking retribution for their past defeats at the hands of the Chiss. Vagaari soldiers then attempted to seize control of the Outbound Flight complex, but were met with resistance from the Skywalkers, the surviving colonists, Chak Fel, and his Stormtroopers from the reactivated and significantly reorganized 501st Legion. These forces clashed with the Vagaari's formidable Wolvkils and a reactivated Droideka, but ultimately prevailed. The majority of the Vagaari forces were concentrated on the uppermost Dreadnaught, which they detached from the fuselage using explosive charges. The Vagaari then launched an assault on the Chiss Brask Oto Command Station and the Chaf Envoy using Vagaari fighters. However, Luke and Mara Jade, flying a Delta-12 Skysprite, along with the Chiss fleet, defeated the Vagaari.

Aftermath

Despite the Chiss victory, Formbi later disclosed that the entire event was a carefully orchestrated scheme designed to provoke a war between the Chiss and the Vagaari. A large Chiss and Imperial strike force, led by General Drask and including Unit Aurek-7, was deployed to attack the Vagaari's home territories. Most of the surviving colonists chose to relocate to the Empire of the Hand.
