The Yuuzhan Vong initiated the assault known as the Battle of Tynna in the Yuuzhan Vong War, not to seize a particular strategic asset. Their goal was to mislead the New Republic into thinking their next target was either Corellia or Bothawui, based on the intelligence the New Republic had acquired. The Yuuzhan Vong anticipated that the New Republic would divert significant resources to fortify these two worlds, leaving Fondor, their true target, vulnerable. During the conflict, the Tanallay Surge complex fell into Yuuzhan Vong hands, and they exploited it to unleash a deadly biotoxin into Tynna's global ocean. This action rapidly turned the ocean lethal for all life except that of the Yuuzhan Vong, thereby facilitating both their takeover and the terraforming of the planet. Belindi Kalenda and Showolter, arriving on Tynna aboard a LightStealth-18 Reconnaissance Ship, observed this battle. Their attempts at stealth were foiled when Nas Choka, the commander of the Tynna invasion force, detected their ship.
