Bequesh, alternatively referred to as The Cardinal, held the position of administrator within the Tanquilla Beach shadowport. This individual, a Human male, oversaw operations in the Kathol sector situated within the expansive Outer Rim Territories. Born prior to 92 BBY, Bequesh belonged to an outlaw-tech group that gained control of a [mined](/article/mining/legends]-out asteroid. This group then relocated the asteroid to a nebulae located in a corner of the Kathol sector, transforming it into a primary shadowport and smuggling center for the sector.
As the last surviving member of this group, Bequesh governed the station with strict control, actively participating in the day-to-day management of Tanquilla Beach. By the year 8 ABY, his advanced age necessitated the use of a hoverchair for movement, yet he retained full command of his mental capabilities. When the New Republic CR90 corvette, the FarStar, docked at the station seeking repairs to its hyperdrive, Bequesh engaged in discussions with the starship's officers to assess any potential threat they might pose to his established enterprise.
The Human male known as Bequesh, whose birth occurred before 92 BBY, was once a part of an outlaw-tech group. This group managed to acquire a sizable asteroid that was positioned within a system near the planet Gandle Ott inside the Kathol sector of the Outer Rim Territories. This asteroid had been abandoned by miners after they had strip-mined it and exhausted its resources. Through some means, Bequesh and his associates were able to move the asteroid to a small nebulae situated in a distant area of the sector. They then established it as a shadowport, which they named Tanquilla Beach, to cater to the needs of smugglers and pirates. Tanquilla Beach specialized in advanced technology and technical skills, and it soon became a major smuggling hub in the sector. Over the years, Bequesh and his group expanded Tanquilla Beach to include residential areas, technical workshops, and commercial buildings, accommodating the growing number of clients using the shadowport.

By 8 ABY, Bequesh was the only remaining member of the original group and functioned as the station's administrator. His private living spaces were located in a restricted section connected to the central structure of the shadowport. He was protected by his bodyguard, Hella Brün, who had saved his life on numerous occasions during her twenty years of service. Known by the title "The Cardinal," he was thought to be the sole individual possessing complete knowledge of all the secrets held within Tanquilla Beach, and his advanced age had forced him to rely on a hoverchair for mobility. Despite his physical limitations, he was still regarded as the undisputed leader of Tanquilla Beach and continued to be involved in the station's daily day-to-day affairs. Bequesh often presided over the trials conducted on the station, enforcing the strict rules of Tanquilla Beach and acting as a deterrent to anyone considering breaking them. Bequesh also showed a particular interest in the affairs of Spang, a skilled starship engineer who managed a repair facility known as Spang's. Spang was responsible for procuring and installing the weapon systems that defended Tanquilla Beach, and Bequesh made it clear that any harm done to Spang would be considered a direct offense against him.
In 8 ABY, the New Republic CR90 corvette FarStar arrived at Tanquilla Beach in search of repairs for its hyperdrive, which had been sabotaged by an Imperial agent who was loyal to Moff Kentor Sarne, a warlord who had previously controlled the sector. After being driven out from his [capital](/article/capital-legends], Sarne had retreated with his forces into the remote areas of the sector, and the FarStar had been tasked with locating him. Curious about the New Republic's motives and whether they represented a threat to his operations, Bequesh invited the corvette's officers to dine with him. Once he was satisfied that they posed no danger, Bequesh permitted the corvette's crew to remain and attempt to repair their hyperdrive. Shortly after the FarStar's arrival, Tanquilla Beach was attacked by a Carrack-class light cruiser that was loyal to Sarne. The combined firepower of Tanquilla Beach and the FarStar quickly destroyed the attacking vessel.
By 8 ABY, Bequesh was an extremely aged man, his face covered in wrinkles and his hair turned white. He was forced to rely on a hoverchair for mobility. Nevertheless, his mental abilities remained sharp, and he actively participated in the management of Tanquilla Beach. He was known for his merciless treatment of anyone who violated the station's rules.
Bequesh possessed extensive knowledge of various alien species, cultures, languages, and planetary systems, as well as a deep understanding of how a bureaucracy functions. He was the undisputed ruler of Tanquilla Beach, possessing intimate knowledge of its inner workings and the activities taking place on the station. Bequesh was a skilled negotiator, capable of accurately assessing the value of objects and goods. As a technician by trade, he was proficient in programming and repairing computers and droids, as well as security systems.
Bequesh is a character in Shintel Downtime, which is the fourth adventure module in The DarkStryder Campaign for the RPG written by Paul Sudlow and published during 1995.
