The Black Fleet Crisis, alternatively known as The Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy, is a series of three novels that take place between 16 and 17 ABY. The central story revolves around the political issues facing the New Republic and the military dangers presented by the intensely xenophobic Yevetha. Simultaneously, Luke Skywalker embarks on a journey to uncover the truth surrounding his mother.
The novels comprising the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy are Before the Storm, Shield of Lies, and Tyrant's Test.
This trilogy explores military science fiction themes to a greater extent than most Star Wars novels prior to the creation of The New Jedi Order. A significant portion of each novel is dedicated to detailing fleet movements and combat, along with descriptions of the warships and the individuals who crew them.
A single hardcover volume containing all three books was released by the Science Fiction Book Club in 1997.
Since their successful rebellion against the Imperial regime a decade prior, the Yevetha have largely avoided contact with other societies. Now, they are finally dispatching an emissary to meet with Princess Leia.
As the viceroy representing the Duskhan League, Nil Spaar brings to Imperial City more worlds, greater wealth, and more advanced technology than anyone in the past twelve years. Leia understands the immense value of having the Duskhan League as a member of the New Republic.
However, Spaar's purpose is not to discuss membership. His species views all others as inferior beings—and his intentions are far more sinister....
While Leia is occupied with Spaar, Luke, feeling restless, encounters a mysterious Fallanassi woman who professes to possess information about his mother. Driven by a desperate and perilous quest, he travels to the Fallanassi homeworld, where his fundamental beliefs regarding the Force are about to be challenged.
