Blind Squirrel Games

Blind Squirrel Games is a video game development company from the United States, originally operating out of Santa Ana in California. Brad Hendricks established the studio in 2010 and currently holds the position of President and CEO for both the studio itself and its parent organization, Blind Squirrel Entertainment, Inc. Blind Squirrel Games became a part of this parent company during a company-wide reorganization that occurred in March of 2016. Since their inception, they've grown to include three primary studio locations: one in Irvine, located in Orange County, California; another in Austin, Texas; and a third in Auckland, New Zealand. They also employ remote workers spread across 18 states and 3 countries.

The game development firm focuses its efforts mainly on all types of console games, including new intellectual properties, well-known ports, and remastered versions. In collaboration with The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm, and Lenovo, Blind Squirrel Games was one of two major developers, with the other being Schell Games, responsible for creating the gameplay for the 2017 Star Wars: Jedi Challenges Virtual/Augmented Reality (VR/AR) experience. Working closely with Caleb Arseneaux, who at the time was a Managing Producer at Disney overseeing the Jedi Challenges project, the team at Blind Squirrel Games developed various game assets, level designs, visual effects, and gameplay modes, while Lenovo took charge of developing the necessary hardware.

Following the game's initial release, they continued to support it by developing three significant expansions: "The Last Jedi Update," the "Holochess Update," and the "Dark Side Expansion." Blind Squirrel Games' employees were among the first outside of Lucasfilm to be informed about the All Terrain MegaCaliber Six, as they were assigned to design the Crait strategic combat arena for the The Last Jedi expansion. Arseneaux stated in an interview with StarWars.com, "I said, 'Listen, I can't tell you guys a lot. But here's where the AT-AT comes up to me,' and I pointed to my thigh. 'And here's where the AT-M6 needs to be on me,' and I pointed to my head. And they were like, 'Ohhh. Okay.'"

At the 2018 Webby Awards, Star Wars: Jedi Challenges garnered awards for Blind Squirrel Games and their partners in four distinct categories. These included the "Official categories" of "Technical Achievement" and "Best Use of Augmented Reality," along with the "People's Voice categories" of "Technical Achievement" and "Best Use of Augmented Reality." The game's support was discontinued on June 1, 2022, with no further content being developed, and support completely ceased a month later on July 6. Blind Squirrel Games also played a role in the creation of Disney Infinity 3.0 and the Star Wars characters and environments featured within it.
