The charon were beings inhabiting the planet of Gand. Before Zuckuss underwent the Great Rite sometime before 4 ABY, Gand observed that sacred flowers, specifically the T'karra flower, were growing within the charon's nesting areas. As a component of the rite, young members of Zuckuss' clan, Zuckuss included, were tasked with retrieving a flower from these nesting grounds, relying on their instincts to evade the charon and return successfully to pass the trial. Upon arrival at the grounds, one of the Gand, Garkung, procured a flower, only to be killed by a charon. Zuckuss engaged the charon in combat, ultimately causing it to plunge off a cliff. Following the charon's demise, Zuckuss returned to the Master Findsman, reporting the events that transpired, despite not having obtained a flower. The Master Findsman clarified that flower retrieval was not a prerequisite of the rite, and subsequently expelled Zuckuss from the clan due to his perceived failure to fulfill the rite.
