Gand, the homeworld of the insectoid Gand species, was a planet shrouded in fog. Located in grid square T-8 on the Standard Galactic Grid within the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy, its atmosphere was composed of ammonia rather than oxygen. This made the air thick and poisonous to most off-worlders, necessitating the use of respirators by Gand to breathe in oxygen-based atmospheres. The male Gand Zuckuss, one of the initial findsmen known for their exceptional tracking abilities to venture off-world as their mystic traditions dating back centuries waned, and Churkk both originated from this planet.
The canon world of Star Wars first mentioned Gand in Ultimate Star Wars, a reference book from 2015 authored by Patricia Barr, Adam Bray, Daniel Wallace, and Ryder Windham. However, its genesis was in Galaxy Guide 3: The Empire Strikes Back, a 1989 Star Wars Legends supplement created by Michael Stern for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.
When Ethan Sacks was writing for Zuckuss in the Star Wars: Bounty Hunters comic series, he discovered a dearth of established lore regarding the Gand's home planet. Consequently, Sacks had the creative freedom to craft Bounty Hunters 32, a narrative delving into Zuckuss's formative years on Gand. These flashbacks resulted in the comic being Gand's inaugural appearance in canon. Sacks expressed joy in being able to introduce new lore to the Star Wars universe through that issue. In an interview with Star Wars Insider, he likened it to leaving his personal mark on the Star Wars mythos and a gift to his younger self.
