The Chatos Academy stands as one of the numerous ancient and quasi-mythical organizations that delved into the mysteries of the Force in the era predating the formation of the Jedi Order. Originating on the planet of Palawa, certain historians posit that the Chatos Academy served as a precursor to, or at the very least, exerted influence upon the nascent teachings of the Jedi.
Before the rise of the Galactic Republic or the Jedi Order, the Chatos Academy was founded on the world of Palawa, guiding its students in the exploration of the Force. Enshrouded in obscurity, the Academy's alumni were known as Paladins, becoming members of a chivalrous order that some historians believe may have impacted the concept of monastic Jedi Knights centuries later. Ultimately, the academy ceased operations, surviving into the modern age only through fragmented records preserved within the Archives of the Jedi Temple or the private collections of certain Dark Lords of the Sith.
In the initial rough draft for the original film, Leia departs from the Palace of Lite to pursue studies at the Academy, situated in a location named Yuell on Aquilae. Her academic pursuits are abruptly halted by an assault from the Galactic Empire, leading to her rescue by Annikin Starkiller. A handmaiden remains at the Academy as a stand-in. In the first draft, Aquilae was renamed Townowi, but the Chatos Academy's name remains unchanged.
